As the cold wind whipped through Harvard Square, a sweet dog sat tied to a tree, waiting for his owner. Kristina Hollie saw him shiver – and then saw his owner make a split-second decision that would leave strangers smiling, snapping photos, and sharing the moment around the world.

On a chilly December day in 2019, Kristina Hollie and her coworker were waiting for the bus at Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts when they noticed an adorable dog eagerly running errands with his mom.

When the dog mom was ready to make a stop at the post office – where pets unfortunately are not allowed – she began to tie her furry friend to a nearby tree.
Shivering
That’s when Hollie noticed something that made her heart ache – the dog was visibly shivering in the bitter cold and wind, and his mom would not leave her best friend feeling anything but comfort as he waited.
“It was very cold and windy out,” Hollie told The Dodo. “I noticed that he was visibly shaking. She obviously noticed too because she immediately took off her jacket and covered the dog as he sat. Maybe she thought he would kick it off, so she bent down and zipped it up around him!”

The pup sat perfectly still, almost as if he knew his mom was doing something special just for him. He looked thrilled to be warm and cozy in her jacket, even if she’d only be gone a few minutes.
“As soon as she got up and walked past me, I told her that what she did was incredibly sweet and thoughtful,” Hollie said. “She just replied, ‘Thank you! I don’t want him to be cold!’”
‘Very cute and very warm’
While his mom was inside, the dog, wearing a sporty green jacket, became a mini celebrity on the sidewalk. People stopped to snap photos and gush over how adorable – and snug – he looked.
“I saw two or three other people walk past him and comment that he looked very cute and very warm,” Hollie said, who later shared images of the dressed-up dog on Facebook.
‘Best dog pawrent award’
“Shakyboi was cold so owner put jacket on him while she went into post office, 10/10 would do same,” Hollie captioned the post that captured the attention of 11,000 netizens – all who praised the owner for her thoughtfulness.

“How all dogs need to be treated,” writes one cybernaut in the comment section of the post that was shared on Dogspotting – a group dedicated to sharing snaps of the cutest dogs around.
“Best dog pawrent award of the day!” praised a second online user.” shared a second, while a third added: “How about I just sit there and snuggle him while she goes into the post office?”

Meanwhile back outside the post office, Hollie’s bus pulled up. As she boarded, she turned back one last time to see the precious dog sitting proudly in his borrowed jacket – patiently waiting for the woman who had literally given him the coat off her back.
